About the Cedi Conference
The Bank of Ghana, in partnership with Currency Research, successfully hosted the Cedi@60 Anniversary Currency Conference, a landmark celebration marking 60 years of the Ghanaian Cedi. The event brought together leaders from across Africa and beyond to reflect on the currency’s rich legacy and explore its evolving digital future.
The conference brought together 850 attendees from 42 countries and 228 organisations, from 27 central banks, 57 commercial banks and financial institutions, 43 other organisations, 32 suppliers, and 25 NGOs. Over 20 topical sessions featured insights of 45 distinguished speakers.
Over the course of the conference, participants examined the Cedi’s journey—from its role as a symbol of post-independence sovereignty to its current place as a modern tool for financial inclusion and innovation. The discussions highlighted both the achievements of the past six decades and the opportunities that lie ahead in a rapidly digitising financial landscape.
The Cedi@60 Anniversary Currency Conference not only commemorated a milestone in Ghana’s economic history but also served as a platform to envision the next chapter for the nation’s currency in a global context.
